Liberal Democrat Members of the European Parliament 2009-2014 with Nick Clegg
The parties in the European Parliament organise themselves by ideology and not by nationality. The 11 Lib Dem MEPs form part of the ALDE group. With 84 MEPs, ALDE is the third largest group in the European Parliament after the European People's Party (Conservatives) and the Socialist group.
ALDE's priorities for the period of 2007-2008 include tackling climate change and energy security by promoting energy efficiency and the development of renewable energy sources. Fiona is ALDE's energy expert in the Industry, Research and Energy Committee. Another priority for ALDE is to find new and sustainable ways to fight poverty by combining trade and migration policies. ALDE also wants to make the EU more efficient and fights for a close cooperation between EU member states and EU institutions.
