Back to Fiona's work in the European Parliament

In addition to Fiona's work as Rapporteur, Fiona is the leading negotiator for the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) in the European Parliament on the following issues:
In 2008, Fiona led the negotiations for ALDE on the Directive on the promotion of the use of Energy from Renewable Sources as part of the EU's climate change package. (Speech: 4 December 2008/ speech: 16 December 2008).
As Lib Dem spokesperson on energy, Fiona is also taking up North East energy concerns at both the national and international level, including high gas and electricity prices, the functioning of the gas interconnector between the UK and the continent, major energy users' concerns over the Emissions Trading System, access to the grid for small renewables producers and grass roots implementation of energy efficiency measures.
She has spoken at energy events and conferences across Europe, including PRAESEG (2006, London), Glass Performance Days (2007, Tampere), ECEEE (2007, Nice), Sustainable Energy Forum (2008, Amsterdam), Eurelectric (2008, Barcelona) and the World Sustainable Energy Days (2009, Wels, Austria).
