A North East MEP has put her weight behind the Back on Track Campaign trying to bring train building back to the North East.
The Back on Track Campaign urges the Government to award a £7.5bn contract for the next generation of high-speed trains to Hitachi, which has indicated it would assemble the trains at Newton Aycliffe, in County Durham, creating up to 800 direct jobs and a possible 7,000 more in the supply chain.
Liberal Democrat MEP Fiona Hall said:
"It would be great to see the next generation of trains being built in the North East, the birthplace of railways.
"I hope that Hitachi will firm up its commitment to the North East."
