Fiona Hall has signed a European Parliament written declaration on hepatitis C, adding her support for EU-wide action to combat this disease.
Fiona said:
"Hepatitis C is known as a 'silent killer'. We urgently need a greater public awareness because people who contract it often show no initial symptoms but later develop deadly liver problems."
Fiona is calling for the European Commission to recognise hepatitis C as an urgent public health issue.
She said:
"Scientists estimate that 90% of people carrying the virus have not been diagnosed.
"The Commission needs to recommend heptatits C screening across all member states and to ensure early diagnosis, wider access to treatment and more support for sufferers."
