Fiona Hall is marking national solar week by pointing to solar success stories in the North East.
Fiona is the Liberal Democrat energy spokesperson in the European Parliament and is currently working on the Parliament's report on renewables, which is calling for 20% of European energy to come from renewables by 2020.
She said:
"When we think of developing renewables, solar energy is often overlooked because of our unfortunate lack of sunshine.
"But photo voltaics cells converting sunlight directly into electricity are already being used successfully across the North East."
"Kielder Skyspace in Northumberland, the LADDER centre at Ferryhill Durham, developments at Newbiggin Hall in Newcastle and a number of flats owned by Redcar and Cleveland Council are just a few of the many examples of buildings and developments throughout the region that use photo voltaics."
A Green Grants scheme for people who want to install solar panels on their homes has been available since May.
