CONGOLESE REFUGEES SAFE FROM VIOLENT RETURN HOME

Welcoming the news that a High Court judge has ordered a halt to deportations of failed asylum seekers to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Liberal Democrat MEP for the North East, Fiona Hall, said:

"I am very aware of the violence that returnees had suffered in the past.

"Having been in touch with refugees in the Stockton area recently I have been contacting the Government about halting deportations.

"The judge has clearly noted the dangers facing asylum seekers returning to the country and has rightly protected the safety of these individuals."
