Fiona Hall, Liberal Democrat MEP for the North East, has welcomed the publication of a eurobarometer poll on energy policy which reveals that only 12% of European citizens believe that developing the use of nuclear energy would give a satisfactory answer to the current challenges of security of energy supply, growth of energy consumption and climate change.
Ms Hall commented:
"This poll comes as no surprise and shows that people right across Europe think on the same lines as we do in North East England."
Last autumn, market research by consultants Sale Owen revealed that nuclear power is rejected by two thirds of citizens in the North East.
