FIRE SPRINKLERS SAVE LIVES

North East Euro-MP Fiona Hall has been appointed as the Liberals and Democrats spokesperson on the cross-party European Fire Sprinklers Forum.

Ms Hall said:

"Fire sprinklers save lives - especially where older people are concerned.

"I welcome the campaign to get fire sprinklers installed much more widely - especially in hotels, heritage buildings and care homes.

"Elderly people and those with limited mobility have difficulty evacuating a building fast enough in case of fire, even when they are alerted by a smoke alarm. Fire sprinklers stop fire taking rapid hold and allow people to escape.

"I am hoping to work with North East Fire Authorities to take the sprinkler campaign forward in the region."
