Tom with Fiona and Diana Wallis MEP
North Yorkshire born Tom Feeley is set to represent the United Kingdom at a 'know your Europe' TV quiz show in Vienna next week.
He'll appear alongside contestants from the other twenty-four EU states.
Tom's passion for Europe stems back to 1993 when, as a year 8 pupil he won his school's European awareness quiz. He now works as a parliamentary assistant to Fiona Hall, the North East's Euro-MP, at the European Parliament in Brussels.
Liberal Democrat Fiona, who has just returned to Brussels after proving her knowledge with an impressive 54 out of 65 on BBC's Test the Nation's Climate Change quiz over the weekend said:
"Tom's knowledge, interest and charm stand him in good stead against the other European contestants."
The quiz will be aired on Wednesday night live to Austrian prime-time viewers. Tom is hoping his German speaking skills will come in handy when wooing the audience.
He said:
"I want to show the other twenty-four countries in the EU that we're very much part of the club and know our stuff and, on top of that we can speak other languages.
"I'm honoured to be representing Great Britain and the North!"
Newly elected leader of the UK Lib Dems in Europe, Diana Wallis, MEP for Yorkshire and the Humber has given Tom her full support.
