Fiona Hall MEP today joined Liberal Democrat Councillors and local residents to submit a petition at Gateshead Civic Centre.

Liberal Democrats Councillors Jonathan Wallace and Peter Maughan launched a petition against proposals to allow opencast mining next to the historic Gibside Estate in the Derwent Valley.

Campaigners fighting proposals for an opencast coal mine near the Gibside Estate handed in a 5000 signature petition to Gateshead Council.
